I purchased a 3 Nano8 microcontrollers a few months ago and they were brilliant! Just a few weeks ago I decided that I needed 10 more but unfortunately, my supplier was out of stock.

After looking around in its Datasheet, I found out that they are based on the Microchip PIC12F617 processor. So I went ahead and bought 10 of the Microchip PIC12F617 processors thinking that they will just work! I was wrong!

When I connect the Microchip PIC12F617, Basic Micro Studio does not recognize it and displays an error message: "A BasicATOM NANO processor must be connected to program." when i attempt to program it! Is there something I can do to get the Microchip processors to work in Basic Micro Studio?

Hi there,

The Basic Micro Nano-8 Micro controller is based on the PIC12F617 as you have found however the Nano-8 contains the correct program to allow it communicate with the Basic Micro Studio program and to download BASIC programs and then run the code BUT what you have purchased is a BLANK PIC chip and that has no program in there at all and so it does nothing and thats why Basic Micro Studio is unable to recognise it,

We do stock the Nano-8 Micro controllers here at BasicMicroUK and we can offer you a £5 part exchange on your 10 of PIC's you have purchased incorrectly,

At BasicMicroUK we stock the whole range of Basic Micro Nano chips as well as the development PCB's to use with them,

Please see our website at http://www.basicmicro.co.uk and also our eBay shop at :- http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Basic-Micro-UK?_trksid=p2047675.l2563
I hope this helps,

Many thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your response.

Actually, I am not in the UK, I am in Canada. I see that the US store has the Nano8 in stock and that they can ship them to Canada.

However is there a simple way to program the Blank PIC12F617 with the correct program to allow it to communication with the Basic Micro Studio program?

Thx

HI

YES Basic Micro USA are showing on the web site that they have got them in stock BUT I am sure there was a minimum order quantity on them, you will need to check this,

We also have them in stock and can sell in any numbers and also ship to you,

There is no way to program your blank units to communicate with BM Studio, you have to buy them ready to go as you did the first time,

Many thanks
Dave
