I have an older 30A Roboclaw, it says V3, but looks exactly like the current V4. However, this V3 has no USB socket soldered. It has the copper tracks and pads to solder one, but it came without the USB socket.

So if I solder one myself, will I be able to use it in USB mode?

So I tried soldering a USB socket anyway, and found out that it doesn't work :(

The computer didn't detect the Roboclaw as a USB device, and even the Roboclaw mode selection doesn't go upto 15 (USB mode).

Is there any way that I could get this one to work in USB mode? If not, I guess I will have to use a USB to serial converter...

You might email or call them up. My guess from some email earlier with Nathan, that you would probably have to send it back in to them to update the firmware to a version that supports the USB. But again I am just guessing.

If you haven't damaged it and you send it in we can re-solder the USB connector and update the firmware to include the USB support. We offer free upgrades(not including shipping) for any older V3 boards.
