Does anyone know if you can buy the PIC nano directly from Microchip and have them work on the BasicMicro environment? Specifically, I was going to buy the PIC16F88-I/P which is the NANO 18.

Thanks,
Jay

No.

In order to program the chip, it needs a proprietary boot loader programmed into it.

When bought from Microchip it is a PICmicro. Nano is our trade marked name just like PICAxe is for that company and PICmicro is for Microchip.

We can give the compiling tools away for free because we make money selling the processors (not a lot, but some).
